  • PROS:


  • Can provide  visual and audio stimulation
  • Easy to learn
  • Fun
  • Inexpensive



  • CONS:


  • Not interactive
  • Easily over done
  • Requires a  projector in the classroom

  • PowerPoint lectures posted on the web prior to class
  • Embedded video of a place, item or event being discussed in class
  • Highlight key points

  • Computer menus and buttons may be activated by touching the board
  • Notes on the whiteboard can be printed out

  •  Interactive


  • Fun to Use


  • Visual
  • CONS:
  • Extremely expensive
  • Other methods can achieve similar results
  • Perpetuates the teacher as expert rather than facilitator

  • PROS:
  • Interactive
  • Inexpensive
  • Several different presentation types rolled into one product
  • CONS;
  • Dependent on Internet connections
  • Voice communication works with only one person at a time
  • Instructor requires technical experience

Computer Based /Web Training Advantages

  • Interactive
  • Frequent Testing
  • Uses a range of stimuli to interest all learning styles
  • an example is Just in Time Training (JITT)

Computer Based/Web Based Training Cautions:
  • Too often used as a quick fix
  • Needs to be properly evaluated before using
  • Requires follow-up to ensure retention
  • Customized CBT is extremely expensive

On- Line Learning
  • Defined as ‘teaching and learning mediated by a computer’ (Illinois Report)
  • Makes use of chat facilities and forums to provide interaction between students
  • Forces student participation
  • Saves transportation time

On-line Learning
 Pros :                            Cons:
  • Course is fitted into the participants schedule
  • Can be accessed from any internet computer
  • Can be focused on the learner, rather than the instructor
  • High learning curve, both for the instructor and the participant
  • Easy to have your message misinterpreted
  • Requires computer/internet access to participate

CONCLUSIONS:
  • Move beyond Power Point and make use of the technology currently available to;


  • Increase student retention
  • Encourage student participation, thereby increasing their learning
  • Cater to  various learning styles
  • Accommodate adult learner needs
