Learners who do
not have any or have very low self-direction skills require a teacher or some
other authority figure to provide them with precise instructions “…on what to
do, how to do it, and when.”(Gerald O. Grow, pg. 129) These particular students perform best in a
“teacher-centred” environment. This
style of teaching works well for younger learners and the students are
absorbing information at a very high rate.
However, in an adult situation, learners who tend to lack
self-direction may limit their learning potential.
