The word Karate means"the art of empty hands". It is the most practiced of the martial arts in the world.Karate is a means of self-defence as well as a sport it uses the body as a weapon in striking,kicking and blocking.In Japan where it is called karate-do it envoles of the mind as well as the body.Unlike judo and aikido, it is not a grappling or throwing sport.There are are hundreds of karate forms stemming from the teahers of the art.
Karate orginated in Okinawa 600 years ago where it was based on combat techniques imported from China.It wasn't called Karate until it was introduced to japan in the early 20th century by Gichin Funakahi.It was he who gave the art it's present name in 1935.
Ninjutsu means '' fighting methods of the ninja .'' The orginal ninja were members of secret societies formed in Japan before 1500. At that time Japan was ruled by warlords and thier followers. For security reasons different groups found it necessary to train people as spies, sabotuers and fighters to engage in what would by called today as covert opperations.
